I have been a third grade teacher in San Luis Obispo since 1981. I have studied and taken classes in Middle Eastern and related
dance traditions for more than twenty years, and I have taught classes of Middle Eastern and related dance, on beginning,
intermediate, and advanced levels for several years. I have directed and choreographed for professional dance troupes as
well. Middle Eastern dance is a gentle and satisfying exercise and dance regimen, and many dance every day for the
health benefits alone. I find this dance form to be healthy for my body and my spirit! This is not what Western
culture refers to as belly dancing! The dance styles have common roots, but this style of dance is fusion of folkloric (derived
from cultural and folk traditions) and tribal (focused on the group, not individual) and theatrical in nature. As one
masters the movements and techniques of the steps, we put them together to form cohesive dances. This dance form comes from
the cultures of India, Egypt, the Middle East, and Northern Africa and has been danced by women and men in these cultures
for centuries. We show respect for these traditions, and honor this rich heritage.

We have found a wonderful home at the American Dance Studio, located
at 3195 McMillan Street in San Luis Obispo. The studio is a professional, fully mirrored studio, and we are thrilled
and excited to rent this perfect space from such a well-regarded professional Dance Studio!
The World Dance Company
will offer opportunities for public performance to dance class graduates, including Senior Care Centers and community celebrations!
In addition to the World Dance Troupe, I have formed three professional performance troupes Tribal Mundo, MamaLama
and Bayati, dedicated to performing authentic tribal dance. The dance lessons are designed to prepare you for the possibility
of troupe membership, and there are also many other troupes in San Luis Obispo County of similar styles. Dancer debuts are
made at a senior Care Center (a longtime tradition), and we will also support Festivals and multicultural programs, as well
as programs for the Arts, children, women, peace, and those in need.
Please join us ...
